With a D license you can drive:
D license is necessary for those who want to drive a bus professionally or privately. If you plan to drive with a heavier trailer, you need a DE license. For smaller buses, a D1 license may be an alternative.
To get a driver's license for a bus, you need a driver's license for group 3. Here's how:
Apply via the Swedish Transport Agency Visit the Swedish Transport Agency's e-service for driving license and fill out the application.
Medical certificate You need a medical certificate that shows that you meet the medical requirements. The medical certificate is sent directly to the Swedish Transport Agency by the doctor.
The training for D-license includes both theoretical and practical elements:
Theoretical training:
Vehicle knowledge: Learn about the construction and function of the bus.
Load securing: How to secure the load safely.
Traffic safety: Identify and manage risks in traffic.
Environment: Understand how your driving affects the environment and how you can reduce emissions.
Traffic regulations: Rules and laws that apply to buses.
Personal conditions: How factors such as fatigue and stress affect your driving.
Practical training:
Safety check: Check the condition of the vehicle before driving.
Manoeuvring: Practice handling the vehicle in different situations.
Driving in traffic: Apply your knowledge in a real traffic environment.
The knowledge test (theory test) is conducted at the Swedish Transport Administration and consists of:
Number of questions: 60 questions, of which 5 are test questions that are not counted in the result.
Maximum score: 55 points.
Pass result: At least 44 correct.
Time limit: 40 minutes.
The test covers areas such as vehicle knowledge, traffic rules, traffic safety, the environment and personal circumstances.
The driving test consists of:
Safety check You show that you can check the vehicle's lighting, tires, brakes and other important functions.
Manoeuvring You demonstrate your ability to manoeuvre the vehicle, including reversing and parking.
Driving in traffic You drive in different traffic environments to show that you can handle the vehicle safely and effectively.
24 years: To obtain a D licence, you must be 24 years old.
Lower age limits: You can obtain the licence at a lower age if you complete a professional driver training course or similar.
There are also other licences for buses:
D1 – Medium-sized bus: For buses that are designed and manufactured to carry a maximum of 16 passengers in addition to the driver and are a maximum of 8 meters long.
D1E – Medium-sized bus with heavy trailer: For D1 vehicles with one or more trailers without a weight limit.
DE – Bus with heavy trailer: For D vehicles with one or more trailers without a weight limit.
