Everything you need to know about getting a passenger car driving license (B driving license)

Getting a passenger car driving license is a significant milestone that opens doors to increased freedom and independence. A B driving license gives you the right to drive passenger cars and light trucks with a maximum total weight of 3,500 kg.

You need a driving license permit

To begin your journey towards your driving license, you need a valid [driving license permit](/driving license permit). You apply for this from the Swedish Transport Agency.

Vision test

Part of the application process involves undergoing a [vision test](/vision test) to ensure that your vision meets the requirements for safe driving.

Theoretical training

The theoretical part of the driving license training covers several important areas that you need to master to become a safe and responsible driver. These include:

  • Traffic rules: Understanding the laws and regulations that apply in traffic.

  • Personal conditions: Insight into how factors such as fatigue, stress and health affect your driving ability.

  • Environment: Knowledge of how driving affects the environment and how you can drive more environmentally friendly.

  • Vehicle knowledge: Basic understanding of the functions and maintenance of the car.

  • Road safety: Learn to identify and manage risks in traffic.

Our affiliated driving schools use Teoricentralen's exclusive training materials, which gives you a comprehensive and educational learning experience.

Practical driving training

The practical part of the training involves taking driving lessons with an experienced driving instructor. During these lessons, you will learn how to handle the vehicle in different traffic situations and environments, which is crucial to becoming a safe and competent driver.

Risk training

Before you can take the tests, you are required to complete mandatory risk training, divided into two parts.

  • Risk training: A theoretical training that deals with risky behaviors in traffic, such as alcohol, drugs and fatigue.

  • Risk training (slippery road): A practical training where you gain experience in driving under difficult road conditions, such as slippery roads.

Knowledge test and driving test

Once you have completed both the theoretical and practical training, it is time for the tests. The theoretical test consists of 65 questions that test your knowledge of traffic rules and road safety. The practical test involves you driving with a driving instructor who assesses your ability to drive a car in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Knowledge test (theory test): A written test that tests your theoretical knowledge of traffic rules and safety.
  • Driving test (driving test): A practical test where you demonstrate your ability to drive and handle the vehicle in traffic.

Both tests are conducted at the Swedish Transport Administration.
