What is C1 license?

With a C1 driving license you are allowed to drive:

  • Medium-duty trucks and passenger cars with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 7,500 kg.
  • Light trailers with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 750 kg.

How do I apply for a driving license?

To get a driving license for C1 qualification, you need a driving license for group 2. Here's how:

  1. Apply via the Swedish Transport Agency Visit the Swedish Transport Agency's e-service for driving license and fill out a health declaration.

  2. Medical certificate A medical certificate is required to prove that you meet the medical requirements. The medical certificate is sent directly to the Swedish Transport Agency by the doctor.

What does the training for medium-duty trucks include?

The training for C1 qualification includes both theoretical and practical elements:

  • Theoretical training:

  • Vehicle knowledge: Learn about the design and function of the truck.

  • Load securing: How to secure the load safely.

  • Traffic safety: Identify and manage risks in traffic.

  • Environment: How your driving affects the environment and how you can reduce emissions.

What is included in the knowledge test?

The knowledge test (theory test) is conducted at the Swedish Transport Administration and consists of:

  • Number of questions: 60 questions, of which 5 are test questions that are not counted in the result.
  • Maximum points: 55 points.
  • Pass score: At least 44 correct.
  • Time limit: 40 minutes.

The test covers areas such as vehicle knowledge, traffic rules, road safety, the environment and personal circumstances.

What is included in the driving test?

The driving test consists of:

  1. Safety check You show that you can check the vehicle's lighting, tires, brakes and other important functions.

  2. Manoeuvring You demonstrate your ability to manoeuvre the vehicle, including reversing and parking.

  3. Driving in traffic You drive in different traffic environments to show that you can handle the vehicle safely and efficiently.

What are the age limits?

  • 18 years: To take the C1 licence you must be 18 years old.

If you need to drive other types of trucks or vehicle combinations, the following qualifications may be relevant:

  • C1E – Medium-duty truck with heavy trailer: For C1 vehicles with trailers where the total weight does not exceed 12,000 kg.
  • C – Heavy truck: For vehicles without weight restrictions and light trailers.
  • CE – Heavy truck with heavy trailer: For C vehicles with trailers without weight restrictions.
