What is an A2 license?
The A2 license entitles you to drive medium motorcycles with:
- Power: Maximum 35 kW.
- Power/weight ratio: Max 0.2 kW/kg.
- Modification: The motorcycle must not be modified from an engine with more than double the power, i.e. a maximum of 70 kW.
Age limit: You must be 18 years old to get an A2 driving license.
A2 is a good entry point for those who want to drive a motorcycle but are not yet ready for a heavy motorcycle (A). If you later want to upgrade from A2 to A, you can do so by taking a new driving test.
How do I apply for a driving license permit?
To start your journey towards an A2 driving license, you need a driving license permit. Here's how:
-
Apply via the Swedish Transport Agency
Fill in a health declaration and submit your application via the Swedish Transport Agency's e-service for driving license permits.
-
Perform an eye examination
Visit an optician or doctor for an eye examination. The results are sent digitally to the Swedish Transport Agency.
What does the training for A2 include?
The training for A2 qualification consists of both theoretical and practical elements:
-
Theoretical training:
-
Vehicle knowledge and maneuvering: How to handle a medium-sized motorcycle.
-
Traffic safety: Risks and preventive measures.
-
Environment: How you can drive in an environmentally friendly way.
-
Traffic rules: Laws and regulations that apply in traffic.
-
Personal conditions: How, for example, stress and fatigue affect your driving.
-
Practical training:
-
Maneuvering: Low-speed exercises, braking and other technical elements.
-
Driving in traffic: How to handle the motorcycle safely in different traffic situations.
-
Risk training for medium-sized motorcycles:
-
Riskettan MC (part 1): A theoretical training on risks in traffic.
-
Risktvåan MC (part 2): A practical training that focuses on creating an understanding of the risks when driving in difficult conditions, such as at high speed or in poor road conditions.
Both Riskettan and Risktvåan must be completed and valid before you can book the theory test or driving test.
What is included in the driving test?
The driving test consists of two parts that assess your theoretical and practical knowledge:
- Knowledge test (theory test)
The theoretical test is conducted at the Swedish Transport Administration and includes:
- Number of questions: 70 questions, of which 5 are test questions that are not included in the result.
- Pass result: At least 52 correct answers are required.
- Time limit: 50 minutes.
- Driving test (run-in)
The driving test consists of two parts:
- Maneuvering on the track: You show that you can handle the motorcycle safely through exercises such as low-speed maneuvering, braking and evasive maneuvers.
- Driving in traffic: You ride in different traffic environments to show that you can handle traffic situations safely.
Upgrade to heavy motorcycle (A)
If you have had an A2 driving license for at least two years, you can upgrade to heavy motorcycle (A) already at the age of 20. The upgrade requires a new driving test, but you do not need to take the theory test again if it is still valid.
