What is an AM driving license?
An AM driving license entitles you to drive a class I moped, also called an EU moped, which has a maximum speed of 45 km/h. In addition to two-wheeled mopeds, you can also drive moped cars, A-tractors and EPA-tractors with this license. The moped must be registered, have a registration plate and be insured. To get an AM driving license, you must be 15 years old.

What is the difference between a class I and class II moped?
The difference between a class I and class II moped is mainly in speed and where they can be driven:
- Class I moped (EU moped): Has a maximum speed of 45 km/h and requires an AM driving license. It can be driven on regular roads but not on cycle paths.
- Moped class II: Has a maximum speed of 25 km/h and requires a driver's license. It can usually be driven on cycle paths.
How do I apply for a driving license?
Before you can start your moped training, you must have a driving license. Here's how to apply:
-
Apply via the Swedish Transport Agency
Go to the Swedish Transport Agency's e-service for driving license and fill out a health declaration. The Swedish Transport Agency will assess whether you meet the requirements to become a safe driver.
-
Have an eye examination by an optician or doctor
The eye examination is mandatory and must be done by an optician or doctor. The results are sent digitally to the Swedish Transport Agency.
What does the AM training include?
To get an AM driving license, you must complete a training course that consists of both theory and practice:
- Theoretical training: At least 8 hours where you learn about traffic rules, road safety and driver responsibility.
- Practical training: At least 4 hours of driving where you practice handling the moped in traffic and different situations.
The training also covers mopeds and gives you the skills to drive other vehicles such as EPA and A tractors.
How is the knowledge test done?
The knowledge test is the last step before you get your AM driving license. It is carried out at the Swedish Transport Administration and consists of:
- Number of questions: 70 questions, of which 5 are test questions that are not included in the result.
- Maximum points: 65 points.
- Pass result: At least 52 correct answers are required to be passed.
- Test time: 50 minutes.
The test tests your knowledge of traffic rules, road safety and how to drive different types of vehicles covered by the AM driving license, such as two-wheeled mopeds, moped cars and A-tractors. After you have passed, you will receive your driving license and can start driving.
