Requirements for a driving license permit
For a regular driving license permit (licenses: AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE), there is a so-called vision requirement. This means that you must have at least 0.5 in visual acuity when we measure your vision in both eyes together, with or without aids. You must also have an approved field of vision.
Do you need glasses or lenses when you drive?
During the eye examination, your visual acuity is measured and if you have glasses or lenses, your visual acuity is checked both with and without your visual aids. The optician also checks your field of vision. Here, the optician decides whether you need glasses or lenses to drive, which is also stated on your future driver's license.
What rules apply to vision examinations for driving licenses?
When you are going to get a driver's license, you need an approved vision certificate in order to be able to get your driver's license permit from the Swedish Transport Agency. You get this vision certificate after you have taken a vision test for a driver's license at an optician. A vision examination for a driver's license takes about 10 minutes.
The vision certificate is sent to the Swedish Transport Agency
After the vision test, you will receive a certificate of vision testing for the driving licences AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE and tractor licence (group I).
The optician will often send the certificate electronically to the Swedish Transport Agency for you. If you would rather have a printout on paper, this can often also be arranged. Keep in mind that the vision certificate must not be older than 2 months when you send it in.
Note! Don't forget to bring your valid identification – ID card or passport
How much does an eye examination for a driving licence cost?
An eye test for a driving licence costs anywhere between 100 - 300 kronor depending on which optician you go to.
