Common causes of understeer?

When understeering the car, the car turns less than you turn the steering wheel as the front tires lose grip. Most commonly, front-wheel drive cars suffer from understeer compared to rear-wheel drive cars. Here are some common causes of understeer:

  • The tires that are on the front of the car water or mud are flattening.
  • The front tires are worn.
  • The car is front heavy.
  • You brake too hard so that the tires lock up in cars without ABS brakes.
  • Too much throttle so that the front tires spin loose.
  • Attached caravan or trailer with high ball pressure, for heavily loaded trailer.
