How far away should I be from the vehicle in front?

Learn about the different tricks you can use to easily and smoothly make sure to keep a sufficient distance from the car in front.

Distance to the vehicle in front depends mainly on your speed, but there are two rules of thumb that you can use to calculate the approximate distance.

  • If you drive 80 km/h, you should have a distance of at least 80 meters.
  • It is also possible to use the so-called "three-second rule", which means that you should be three seconds behind the vehicle in front.

Keep in mind that these calculations are approximate and apply in good road conditions, if there are winter road conditions, you should increase the distance more than the above.
