Facts
Children shorter than 135 cm must have child-adapted protective equipment. The car seat is for children who have become too big for the infant car seat, normally around 9 months of age. All children who are taller than 135 cm only need a regular seat belt.
Regarding protective equipment:
To make the trip safer for children, there are specific protective equipment. The type of equipment that should be used depends mainly on the child's height. As the driver, it is your responsibility to ensure that all children under the age of 15 are properly secured and wear a seatbelt.
There are four types of child restraint equipment: booster seat, baby seat, booster cushion and rear-facing car seat. The type to use depends mainly on the child's height, but weight and age can also have an impact. If there is an active airbag, none of these protective devices must be used.
• From 0 to 9 months, use an infant car seat (if appropriate).• From 9 months to 4 years, use a rear-facing car seat (only if appropriate).
It can be placed rear-facing in the front seat or regular in the back seat.
• Booster cushion or booster seat is used from 4 years until the child is taller than 135 cm. These are used forward-facing and should be used in conjunction with regular seat belts, preferably in the back seat.
However, there are two exceptions where protective equipment cannot or does not need to be used:
• Children under the age of three may travel in a taxi on short, temporary distances as long as they are seated in the back seat.• If the child is three years of age or older, but shorter than 135 cm, they may travel with a seat belt if they are seated in the back seat and the journey is short.
