What are winter tyres?

Winter tires give you better grip in winter conditions. There are two types of winter tires: studded and non-studded (friction tires).

Winter tyres are tyres on the car that provide better grip in winter conditions and are available in two types: Studded winter tyres and non-studded winter tyres, also called friction tyres.

  • Winter tyres are marked with the symbol snowflake or alpine peak (tip of iceberg).
  • The minimum permitted tread depth on winter tires is 3.0 millimeters.
  • The law requires that you use winter tires between December 1 - March 31 if winter road conditions prevail.
  • It is forbidden to have studded winter tires between April 16 - September 30 unless there are or are expected winter road conditions.
