In a built-up area, there are a number of things for drivers to consider. Here, traffic is denser, there are more pedestrians and more cyclists, and consideration must be shown to those who live near the road. For these reasons, the base speed is lower in densely populated areas compared to areas outside the built-up area. Here, the base speed is 50 km/h, while the base speed outside the urban area is 70 km/h. In some places such as at schools or on smaller streets, the speed limit is even lower, then usually 30 km/h applies.
