What is included in the theory test?

The goal of the theory test is for you to be able to show that you have the theoretical knowledge needed to be able to drive safely in traffic. The theory test therefore measures your knowledge in the different areas that are needed.

The different areas are:

  • Traffic rules - things like road signs, speeds, loads and what obligations you have towards other road users.
  • Road safety - how alcohol, drugs, stress and fatigue affect your driving, as well as how you adjust your speed, for example.
  • Vehicle knowledge - how the car works and how different road conditions affect your driving, as well as the relationship between your driving and how the vehicle behaves.
  • Environment - how to drive in a fuel-efficient and safe way, and how to minimize your environmental impact in traffic.
  • Personal circumstances - how your actions affect your driving and how things like peer pressure or your personality can affect you in traffic.
