What do you mean by base speed? Learn about the base speeds that apply in different areas and what this means for you as a driver.
Basic speed limit refers to the speed that applies when there are no speed limit signs. In Sweden, there is only one basic speed limit according to the Swedish Traffic Ordinance (1998:1276, Chapter 3, Section 17):
Within built-up areas, vehicles must not be driven faster than 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated by signs. However, this is not a basic speed limit — it is a maximum allowed speed.
All other speed limits, such as 30 km/h, 40 km/h, 80 km/h, or 110 km/h, are posted speed limits and not basic speed limits.
