Glossary
A cold start is when the engine is cold and the vehicle is started. When an engine is cold, it needs more fuel and more dangerous gases are released. The car releases more dangerous exhaust fumes and consumes more gasoline when it is cold, so avoid driving a cold car if it is a short distance. One way to avoid cold starts is to use an engine heater to warm up the engine beforehand. How long it should warm the engine before starting depends on the outside temperature, if it is -30 °C then a longer time than -5 °C is needed, for example.
