Decommissioning

When a vehicle is decommissioned, it means that you no longer have to pay motor insurance and vehicle tax for it. Switching on and off a vehicle is handled via the Swedish Transport Agency, either through their website or app, or in writing using the registration certificate. If a vehicle is decommissioned, it may not be used in traffic. An exception is if you are driving the vehicle to or from an inspection. In such cases, the vehicle must be insured, even if it is decommissioned. It is also important to note that a decommissioned vehicle must not be towed.
