Driving licence revocation

A driver's license can be revoked if a person has been convicted of, for example, drunk driving, speeding or other serious traffic offences.

In connection with the driver's license being revoked, a suspension period is also decided, i.e. how long the person is without their driver's license. After the suspension period is over, the person can get the driving license back, they may have to retake the driving test in the following situations:

  • If the suspension period was longer than 12 months
  • If the Swedish Transport Agency specifically decides that a new driving test is required
  • If the person had a test driving license, i.e., that the revocation took place during the trial period
