Horsepower

Horsepower is a term that is often used in the automotive industry and it refers to the power output of an engine. One horsepower is equivalent to the power needed to lift 550 pounds a foot in a second or 33,000 pounds a foot in a minute.

Although horsepower is often used when discussing a vehicle's performance, it is important to know that there are many other factors that weigh in. Things such as torque, aerodynamics and weight can significantly affect a vehicle's overall performance.
