Stone chips are the damage that gravel and pebbles can do to the windshield of a car. Stone chips are most common on roads with higher speeds due to the fact that the car's travel meets the stone in such force that damage can occur.
You should fix stone chips at an early stage as the crack can otherwise spread, among other things due to the windscreen vibrating when you drive the car. In the end, it can lead to you having to replace the entire windshield, which can be a costly affair.
