Facts
Friction tires are sometimes used instead of studded tires in winter conditions, studded tires that have been standard in the past. The friction tires work well in winter road conditions but generally have poorer grip on ice than traditional studded tires have.
The advantages of friction tires are that they wear less on the road and that the rolling resistance on asphalt is lower than they are with studded tires. In addition, in some cities, it is only allowed to use friction tires or summer tires and*not studded tires.
