Forward Side Position

Forward Side Position locks the body with the help of legs and arms in a position that makes it difficult for the unconscious to roll back into a supine position and holds the chin high so that the epiglotta does not block the airway.

If a person is unconscious, the first thing to do is to check their breathing. If breathing is normal, place the person in a stable side position.

How to place someone in a prostrate side position:

Start by laying the unconscious person on their back. Place your arm closest to you straight out with your palm facing up.

  • Place the far arm across the chest with the back of your hand against your cheek. Keep your grip, while you angle the person's far knee up with your other hand.
  • Press on your knee and gently turn the person towards yourself.
  • Pull out your upper leg and angle both your hip and knee to keep your body stable.
  • Adjust the person's hand under the cheek to keep the airway open.

Continue to monitor the person while waiting for an ambulance and make sure that the pulse and breathing continue as normal.
