Friction tires

Friction tires

Friction tires: Tires without studs for winter use, provide grip through rubber and tread design. Less road noise than studded tyres. Works fairly well all year round.

Friction tires are sometimes used instead of studded tires in winter conditions, studded tires that have been standard in the past. The friction tires work well in winter road conditions but generally have poorer grip on ice than traditional studded tires have. The advantages of friction tires are that they wear less on the road and that the rolling resistance on asphalt is lower than they are with studded tires. In addition, in some cities, only friction tyres or summer tyres are allowed and not studded tyres.
