Hearing impairment

In the case of impaired hearing, the ability to perceive sound is affected. A hearing impairment can be located in different places in the ear. Which part of the ear is damaged is crucial to how a person experiences hearing loss and how it can be treated. The cause of hearing loss is usually noise and age changes.

A person with impaired hearing may drive just as usual, but may need to be extra vigilant for blue lights, for example, as they may have difficulty hearing sirens.

There is also a road sign that signals that people with hearing impairments are common, which is a yellow rectangle with red edges and with three black dots within a circle. When you see this road sign, you should drive extra carefully because pedestrians along the road may have impaired hearing and therefore do not hear you coming driving.
