What is a heavy truck? We explain what defines a heavy truck, what rules apply to it and what qualifications are required to drive it.
A heavy truck has a total weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. Heavy trucks may drive a maximum of 90 km/h on motorways or expressways, 80 km/h on another road or if the truck has a trailer. To drive a heavy truck, you need a driving licence with a C licence, which means that you can also drive passenger cars with a total weight of more than 3,500 kg without an upper weight limit.
