The tunnel category specifies the types of dangerous goods that are prohibited for passage through a tunnel. The allocation will be based on a risk assessment that takes into account, for example, the tunnel's characteristics, the possibility of traffic monitoring, rescue operations and alternative routes. In Sweden, it is the county administrative boards that make decisions about which tunnel category a particular tunnel should have.
