Off-road trailer

An off-road trailer is a trailer that is set up to be towed by an off-road motor vehicle. Off-road trailers like off-road motor vehicles may only be driven on private roads. However, they may drive the shortest suitable distance on another road in connection with such a road having to be crossed. You may also drive on public roads if it is necessary to do so in view of the terrain conditions.

Before you drive out onto a road with an off-road motor vehicle, you are obliged to stop. You must give way to all road users on the road, including pedestrians and skiers. When driving on a public road or a private road, which is used to a large extent by the public, you must not have passengers in the off-road vehicle or trailer attached to it, nor must you drive faster than 20 km/h.

The prohibition of off-road motor vehicles and off-road trailers from driving on roads, as well as the passenger ban and speed limit, does not apply to the following:

  • Police or customs personnel
  • Car inspectors Coast
  • Guard personnel
  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Midwives
  • Veterinarians

These persons are then granted exemptions in connection with the practice of their profession or for taking sick persons to a doctor or medical institution. The exemption also applies when off-road vehicles are used in rescue services or in other comparable urgent cases.
