Imprisonment is a type of punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty, where the convicted person is locked up for a certain period of time after a verdict in court. Prison sentences are considered more severe than fines. It can be time-limited or sentenced for life. In some cases, a fine can be converted to imprisonment. The punishment is regulated in Sweden in the Criminal Code.
Examples of traffic offences that can result in a prison sentence are gross negligence in traffic, repeated unlicensed driving and drunk driving.
