Sulfur dioxide

Sulphur dioxide, SO₂, is a colourless and cough-irritating gas. The gas is formed naturally when biological material is broken down. It is also produced by the combustion of fossil and other sulphurous substances.

Domestic transport accounts for just over one percent of today's emissions of SO₂ in Sweden. It has decreased by almost 98 percent since 1990 as a result of the use of fuels such as petrol, diesel oil and kerosene with lower sulphur content.
