What are jumper cables?

When the car battery is discharged, you can kick-start the engine with jumper cables. You do this by connecting one end to your battery, and the other to another car's battery.

To do this, jumper cables:

  1. Attach the positive end of the cable to the positive terminal of both cars. Start with the car that has charged the battery.
  2. Connect the negative end to the negative terminal of the working car and the body of the car that needs assistance.
  3. Start the car with a charged battery. Leave it running for a few minutes to charge the second battery.
  4. Now start up the car that needed the help.
  5. When removing the cables, start by detaching the negative terminal from the body of the auxiliary vehicle. Then remove the cable on the other car's negative terminal.
