Ball printing

Ball pressure is the pressure created between the trailer hitch and the towbar. A normal ball load is 30 - 100 kg and it is this pressure that the trailer loads the car's towbar with. You change the ball load by moving the load on the trailer. The car's owner's manual states the maximum ball pressure the car can withstand. It is often less than 100 kg. A low ball pressure occurs if the load is placed too far back on the trailer, the car's rear wheels are "lifted" up and have poorer grip. This is the more dangerous way to have the wrong ball pressure. The car and trailer will eel their way forward and the risk of the knife effect increases. A high ball pressure occurs if the load is placed too far forward on the trailer, the rear end of the car is pressed down. This means that the front wheels are "lifted" up and have poorer grip. The car risks understeering and the headlights will also dazzle oncoming traffic.
