The brake pedal is used to brake the car. When you press the brake pedal, you use the service brake. The power from the pedal is transferred to the wheels with the help of brake fluid.
All modern cars are equipped with a so-called two-circuit system. This means that if there is a leak on the brakes, or a system is out of order, there is still braking effect on two or three of the wheels.
