Carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide is a colorless gas at room temperature, with a faint, pungent odor, it occurs naturally in the atmosphere and is part of nature's cycle, it is also a greenhouse gas.

Carbon dioxide as a clean gas has several uses. The gas is used for freezing or cooling food. Carbon dioxide is also used in fire extinguishers, its properties allow the fire to be extinguished by cooling and by excluding the air. Another area of use is the carbonation of soft drinks, for example.

In connection with cars burning gasoline or diesel, carbon dioxide is created as a by-product. One litre of petrol results in about two kilograms of carbon dioxide in addition to other exhaust gases. However, modern cars emit less carbon dioxide than older cars.
