If people inhale carbon monoxide, it eventually leads to reduced levels of consciousness, unconsciousness and respiratory arrest. This is what is known as carbon monoxide poisoning.
You should therefore never operate an internal combustion engine in an enclosed space as inhaling carbon monoxide can lead to similar injuries as inhaling fire smoke.
