Daily fines

Day fines are one of the two punishments that can be handed out in our legal system, the other is imprisonment. It is common for fines to be used if the offense is not particularly serious, or if it would result in 14 days or less in jail.

Daily fines consist of two components, the number of daily fines and the size of the daily fine itself. As a rule, a daily fine should correspond to one thousandth of the convicted person's annual income. Day fines can be imposed as a minimum of 30 day fines, and a maximum of 150 day fines.

The police will send out a payment card when it is time to pay the fine. The money paid as a daily fine goes to the Swedish state.
