Crumple zone

What is a crumple zone? We go through what crumple zones mean and also explain how they work in practice if an accident occurs.

Crumple zones are the parts of a car's body that are designed to yield in a collision, so that the sequence of events is longer protracted in time. In a frontal collision, for example, the front crumple zone is compressed in a controlled manner to absorb the majority of the force from occupants in the car.
