Glossary

Dangerous goods

Dangerous goods is a collective term for substances and objects that can cause damage to people, the environment or property, if they are not handled correctly during transport. A substance or product that is inherently harmless can pose a danger during transport, depending on how the product is transported and whether it is transported together with other products.

Dangerous goods are divided into nine different classes:

  1. Explosives and articles Gases
  2. Flammable liquids
  3. Flammable solids
  4. Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides
  5. Toxic and infectious substances
  6. Radioactive substances
  7. Corrosive substances
  8. Other dangerous substances

There are a number of subdivisions for each class. The content of these is not exhaustive, but it nevertheless covers the majority of the commercially significant products with hazardous properties.
