All-wheel drive
Just as the name suggests, it basically means that all the wheels on a vehicle, for example on a car, have drive. Four-wheel drive is advantageous when driving on slippery roads or if you are driving heavy loads.
All-wheel drive comes in the following versions:
- Permanent all-wheel drive - All four wheels are constantly driven at the same time.
- Manual all-wheel drive - The car is powered by either rear- or front-wheel drive as standard, but can switch to all-wheel drive when the driver turns on the system.
- Automatic all-wheel drive - The car is powered by either rear- or front-wheel drive as standard, but the engine can switch to all-wheel drive if necessary. The driver then does not need to do anything to activate the all-wheel drive.
