A generator is a machine that converts kinetic energy into electrical energy. There are different types of alternators that have different tasks, below we take a closer look at the alternator in cars.
The alternator is responsible for charging the car's battery using kinetic energy from the engine. When the car is running, it is the alternator that supplies all the electricity to the car's electrical functions. The battery is also charged by the alternator when the car is being driven and this is also why cars that have been stationary for a long time often have a dead battery.
