Lane change
A lane change, or lane change, means that you change from one lane to another. If there are several lanes, or lanes, on the same road, you should choose the lane that goes towards the same destination you are heading towards.
So if you plan to turn right, you should choose the lane that is on the right, to avoid having to change lanes more than necessary. There may also be arrows painted in the lanes that show which directions they are suitable for.
The following are important to keep in mind when changing lanes:
- Check the traffic in your vicinity, including blind spots and side mirrors.
- Adjust your speed, you may sometimes need to accelerate or brake to enter a gap in the new lane in a safe manner.
- If it is not possible to change lanes, for example because there is no gap, you must wait. That is why it is good to make a lane change well in advance.
- If the lanes are separated by a solid line, you are not allowed to make a lane change there, the exception is if there is a dotted line to the right of the solid line, or if it is required to drive in a safe manner.
