Meeting in the dark means that you meet another car when it is dark outside. When you have an encounter in the dark, it is important that you turn off the high beams in time to avoid dazzling the oncoming driver. Keep your gaze obliquely to the right to avoid looking straight into the oncoming car's headlights. As soon as you and the oncoming car have passed each other, you can turn the full beam back on.
