Protruding load

Protrusive load is any load in or on your car that protrudes from the vehicle. The following applies to protruding loads:

  • Forward - Cargo that is not clearly visible and protrudes forward must always be marked with a flag, for example. If it is clearly visible, it does not need to be marked unless it protrudes forward more than 1 meter.
  • Sideways - Cargo may protrude a maximum of 20cm on each side of the car, the total vehicle width including cargo may not exceed 260cm. If the vehicle on its own is wider than 260cm, no load may push out to the side.
  • Backwards - Loads that protrude more than 1 metre backwards should always be marked.
  • When marking cargo during the day, you should use red-and-yellow flags or other flags with high contrast.
  • When marking cargo at night, use white light and a white reflector at the front, and red light and red reflector at the rear.
