Railway crossing

A railway crossing or a railway crossing means that a railway crosses the road. There are two different types of railway crossings:

  • Level crossings, where the road and the railway cross each other at different levels, for example if there is a bridge or viaduct.
  • Level crossings, where the railway and the road cross each other on the same plane, i.e. on the same road.

Railway crossings are well marked with cross signs, sound and light signals and barriers in the vast majority of places. But, despite signal lights and any barriers, it is important to have an eye on the rails yourself when crossing it. Keep in mind that trains have a very long braking distance depending on speed, at 200 km/h the braking distance is as long as 1.2 km.
