Snowdrift means that snow from the ground is lifted into the air by wind and drifts with the air current. The wind speed usually has to be quite high for snow drifts to occur. Snow drifts are not counted as precipitation. In a snowstorm, there can be both snow precipitation and snow drifts at the same time.
