Glossary
A snowmobile is an all-terrain vehicle with tracks and skis intended to be driven in snow. In the areas where snowmobiles are common, it is normally just called a snowmobile, as there is usually no risk of confusion with the other meanings of the word snowmobile.
To drive a snowmobile in Sweden, you must be 16 years old and have a snowmobile driver's license. Snowmobiles may also be driven by those who have a Swedish driving licence or tractor licence issued before 2000-01-01. You can also drive without a driving licence if you are part of a group in the tourism industry with a maximum of ten people who have a driving licence or tractor licence, and who are led by a person with a snowmobile driving licence along a route determined by the leader before the journey.
It is not allowed to drive a snowmobile on public roads, except when you are crossing the road, or drive the shortest possible distance if the terrain is impassable. Where you have to drive a snowmobile on the road, the maximum speed allowed is 20 km/h.
