Whiplash

Whiplash, or whiplash injury as it is sometimes called in Swedish, occurs when the body is exposed to an external force that suddenly throws the head forward. It can basically be described as a sprain of the neck, but it can lead to long-term problems.

Symptoms of whiplash include:

  • Stiffness or pain in the neck
  • Pain in the upper body
  • Numbness in the face or arms
  • Pain in the back that radiates down to the legs
  • Dizziness
  • Impaired hearing or sensitivity to sound, light, taste and memory difficulties

If you suspect that you have suffered from whiplash, you should visit a health center, if you experience pain or other problems, emergency care may sometimes be needed.
