Wrong gear

Driving with the wrong gear is rarely recommended. But there are situations where the "wrong gear" is right. For example, it is a good idea to drive in too high a gear if it is unusually slippery on the road surface as this reduces the risk of the tires slipping.

In general, however, it is bad to drive in the wrong gear. Using the wrong gears at the wrong speeds puts a noticeable strain on the car. The car will feel weird and you'll hear noises that aren't natural for a car to make. This noise is caused by the load on the gearbox and engine in your car.

Continuously driving with the wrong gears is therefore not good for the car in the long run.
