Car seat

Those shorter than 135 cm must use protective devices specially adapted for children. The car seat is used for children who have outgrown the infant car seat, after about 9 months. All children taller than 135 cm only need to wear a regular seat belt. Various protective devices: To increase the safety of children, special protective devices are used. The type of protective device to be used is primarily determined by the child's height. As a driver, you are responsible for ensuring that all children under the age of 15 are protected and wear seat belts. There are four types of child restraints: booster seat, baby seat, booster cushion and rear-facing car seat. Which of these to use depends mainly on the child's height, but the child's weight and age may also come into play. If an active airbag is installed, none of the protective devices may be used.

  • aged 0 months to 9 months, baby car seats are used (not if it does not fit).
  • Aged 9 months to 4 years, rear-facing car seat is used (not if it does not fit). Should sit rear-facing in the front seat or normally in the back seat.
  • aged 4 years to longer than 135 cm in height, a booster cushion or booster seat is used. These are used forward-facing and in conjunction with regular seat belts, preferably in the back seat.

There are two exceptions where these protective devices cannot or do not need to be used:

  • If the child is younger than three years old, he/she may travel by taxi on shorter and temporary distances with the requirement that he/she sits in the back seat.
  • If the child is three years or older, but shorter than 135 cm, they may travel with a seat belt as long as they are in the back seat and as long as the distance to be driven is short.
