Crosswalk
A pedestrian crossing is a place on a road or street where pedestrians are intended to walk if they want to cross the road. It is usually marked with dotted lines on the roadway and a road sign. However, it is the road sign that shows where the pedestrian crossing is located.
There are guarded and unguarded pedestrian crossings:
- Guarded pedestrian crossings mean that traffic is regulated by means of traffic signals or by the police.
- Unguarded pedestrian crossings mean that vehicle drivers have an obligation to give way to pedestrians, and must therefore let the pedestrian through. However, pedestrians are not allowed to go out onto the pedestrian crossing without taking into account approaching vehicles.
