Glossary
A fuel cell converts chemical energy from a fuel plus an oxidizing agent into electricity, through a chemical reaction whereby the fuel is oxidized at the anode and the oxidizing agent is reduced at the cathode.
Fuel cell cars are a type of electric car, which gets energy from a fuel cell stack that is fed with hydrogen and oxygen. When a chemical process between the two substances occurs, electricity is formed – simply explained – which is then stored in batteries. From the exhaust pipe comes nothing but water vapour.
Several manufacturers are working on fuel cell cars and new advances are constantly being made.
