Glossary
Excessive contrasts create glare for road users. In night traffic, we usually talk about discomfort glare and visual impairment.
A visual impairment is a glare that has a negative impact on vision, but does not cause any discomfort, so it is common not to do anything about it.
Discomfort glare occurs when there is an object (e.g. a light source) in the field of view that has a significantly higher luminance than the surrounding area.
