Direct vision is also known as central vision. This type of vision makes up only 1–2% of a person's field of vision. For example, when driving, direct vision helps us interpret information on a small sign.
Simply put, it's about where we focus with our eyes. The remaining 98-99% is what is called peripheral vision, here the eye mainly detects what is in motion.
